The Abilene Police Department has as authorized strength of 180 sworn positions and 50 additional civilian positions. Abilene, a city of 117,000, is located in the middle of the State of Texas and is one of the safest cities in the nation. We place a high emphasis on community – customer oriented policing. We indeed do serve our community and our citizens. We are proud of our many accomplishments. Many of our programs have been recognized at the State and National levels. Some of those programs are our Training, Youth, Missing Children, SWAT, K-9, Comp Stat and our patrol deployment.

The mission of the Abilene Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in the City of Abilene by working cooperatively with the public and to serve our citizens within the framework of the United States Constitution to enforce the laws, provide a safe environment and reduce the fear of crime.
